Croquet

The long weekend is coming up. You are thinking about having a get together, but you need a theme (ok, you don’t really need a theme, but humor me) – something that will keep the kids entertained, is fun for the adults, and is EASY to set up? Well, here’s an idea that I am going with this weekend – Croquet! Sounds corny doesn’t it? Maybe, but it can be a lot of fun, and all you need is a Canadian Tire croquet set, a picnic table and some cold beverages. You can set it up according to “the rules” or, you can have some fun and set up the course however you, or the kids, want. We have done it up and down hills, around trees, and through the garage. All it takes is a little creativity. Add a picnic table with chicken, potato salad and a cooler filled with ice and beer and you have a great afternoon ahead. Of course, you can always do it up with a little more panache if you have got the time and are so inclined. Obviously, you still need the croquet set. A nice level yard, well mowed, will maybe take out some of the challenge of the earlier set up, but will make the course a little bit more traditional. Now, going with the traditional, whites are a must, so let your guests know the dress code. Also, instead of just hot dogs and beer, why not up the ante and go for a little bit more exciting fair –Pimm’s cocktails pecan crusted chicken with a delightfully dainty raspberry and mixed green salad, and then finish the event off with a beautiful strawberry topped cake and a glass of sparkling Prosecco or Champagne! So, why not try out a new tradition? Make the August long weekend a croquet tournament weekend around the neighbourhood with fun foods, new takes on traditional cocktails, and maybe a different yard or two to up the challenge, and then prepare to trounce the competition. P.S. If you are reading this you are probably wondering, what does this have to do with a Real Estate Blog. Well not much, however it does point out one of the advantages of living in Squamish versus Vancouver or Whistler. You can get a home with a large yard with room for the Croquet, the bbq, the table etc… and not mortgage your future. All you need to do is go talk to one of the Realtors at Black Tusk Royal LePage. See now it is a Real Estate Blog 🙂 Enjoy the long weekend!
