Why Moving to Squamish is an Easy Choice

Published on

Picture this scene – you are cruising down the Sea to Sky highway, the wind in your hair and the cool ocean breeze smell all around you; The Stawamus Chief on one side and the breathtaking view of the islands and deep blue water on the other.

What could possibly be better? Well, instead of cruising by, you could actually live there every day nestled in the beautiful, yet affordable town of Squamish.

What does Squamish have to offer?

Squamish is described as a “year-round playground” by the famous travel guide Lonely Planet, and for good reason too. Whether you’re exploring the many hikes in Alice Lake Provincial Park, wind and kite surfing at the mouth of Squamish River, or snowmobiling the Tricouni Ridge, Squamish has something to offer everyone.

Not only is Squamish the “outdoor recreation capital of Canada”, but the food and drink options continue to expand and impress. There are a number of local breweries to choose from and dining options available with seasonal ingredients sourced locally and organically. The Squamish Farmer’s Market takes place every Saturday with over 60 vendors providing fresh produce and artisan goods.

Downtown Squamish boasts many festivals and celebrations that make it a lively spot to be in the summer months. The O’Siyam Pavilion is home to live music performances and events such as free movie screenings for the whole family to enjoy under the stars.

A Sunday afternoon in town may consist of perusing the small boutiques that offer original works of art, jewelry and pottery from local artists unique to Squamish. When it’s time to relax and find a cozy spot to warm up by the fire, Fergie’s café offers a delicious brunch and striking views of Mount Alpha.

The only question that remains… is it actually realistic to move to here?

Affordability and Proximity of Squamish

Squamish is the perfect fit for those looking to find an affordable home and settle down. The community members take advantage of the numerous activities surrounding them, and it is still close enough to the neighbouring larger hubs for any other necessities.

Many from Whistler and Vancouver looking for a more affordable option for their dream home, need not look any further than 45 minutes up or down the highway to Squamish.
