Summer Activities in Squamish

Published on

As the outdoor recreation capital of Canada, Squamish has an abundance of summer activities to suit all tastes. Whether you like lounging in the sunshine or getting active, there is something for everyone. We have put together our favourite Squamish summer activities for you to go and enjoy.

Biking

There are so many bike trails in Squamish, almost too many to choose from! It’s no wonder that PinkBike recently relocated to the area. There are great XC trails, wonderful climbs and a huge selection of downhill/singletrack trails. The town is also located right on the beautiful Sea to Sky Highway which offers possibly one of the most scenic road biking routes in the world! It is also the stage for the Gran Fondo.

Hiking

Just like with biking, there are so many choices when it comes to hiking. Whether you want to test yourself by hiking the Chief, one of the nearby mountain lakes, or simply go out for a more leisurely stroll, you will not be disappointed. Summer is the perfect time to get out and hit the trails. Check out this site for some of the best hiking spots near Squamish.

Camping

Squamish has some great camp grounds in some really beautiful locations. There are both free and paying campgrounds, along with RV parks and fully serviced sites. What better way to get close to nature than sleeping right under the stars! You can check out our full camping blog for more information.

Eat out

There are two meanings to eating out in summer. Either hit the town and check out some of the best restaurants and cafes, or go outside and have a barbeque in the sunshine. Have a barbeque of your own and have friends round to enjoy the warm weather, or take a disposable barbeque to one of the many parks. Be sure to check that fires/cooking is allowed though.

Get on the water

In the heat of the summer you will no doubt want to cool down. There is no better way than getting out on the water. Hit up one of the many lakes for a swim, SUP or kayak, or if you’re feeling more adventurous take to the Howe Sound. There are tons of water sports to choose from including windsurfing, sailing and kite boarding.

Sea to Sky Gondola

Don’t fancy hiking the chief but still want the incredible views? Take a trip on the Sea to Sky Gondola for amazing views of the valley. Summer is by far the best time to go to guarantee the clearest days and best views.

Take a trip

One of the best things about Squamish is its location. If you don’t want to spend the day here, there are so many amazing places close by. Vancouver, Whistler and Pemberton are all short drives away. Check out our guide to Squamish day trips for more information.
