The Test of Metal is happening again this year. The race starts at 11:00am on June 14, 2014. The Test is an iconic race in the Sea to Sky Valley, one of the premier mountain bike events in BC and one of the best known in our area. Pedal Magazine voted Squamish the best place to ride in Canada. In the article about the award, the magazine noted that the award was given not only because of the trails, but of the mountain bike events in Squamish as well. “Receiving this award is an honor and is yet another validation of Squamish as the Mountain Bike Capital of Canada,” Cliff Miller – one of the founders of SORCA – http://www.sorca.ca/ added, in reference to the trademark owned by the Test of Metal. “We started the Test of Metal back in 1994 which quickly grew to become one of the most popular and successful mountain bike races in Canada,” Miller said. “As the Test grew, we realized that it was all about the atmosphere and culture of the event, so with incredible community support we have evolved to putting on four races every summer.” On paper, the race is a 67km romp through the wilderness. In reality, it can be a true test of grit and mettle. And, if you aren’t prepared for it, it can break you and your bike! Training for the Test has already started in Squamish. The trails have been clear and good to go for the last month, and those competitors who know what they are doing have been out riding as much as possible – and if that means a trip down from Whistler, where the trails are still under the cover of ice and snow, then so be it! Where the shops in Whistler haven’t switched over from skis to bikes yet, Squamish shops – like CORSA, Tantalus and Republic are set to get your rides ready to hit the trails, and to fix them up when they hit a little too hard! So get out and get on your saddle to have the best time (both fast and fun!) at the Test this summer! P.S. I know the map says 2012 it is the most recent one I could find. Some of the route has been logged (Rim Creek Rip) but the course does still follow the same route.
